DIY: Fix Shattered Powder

Hi Beauties!

Welcome to my blog and thank you for stopping by, and an even bigger thank you if you are returning!

We’ve all been there, dropped our brand new compact and the powder shattered into a million little pieces, or used up all but the edges and are just completely frustrated with trying to get the last bits out. But wait! Don’t throw it away yet, there is a solution! And while you’re at it, grab your old cream shadow, blush or liner that has dried out, cracked or shrunk and bring it back to life too. Here’s how to do both:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: a broken powder compact or dried cream, 70% alcohol, a spatula, dropper, paper towel, and a Q-tip

  1. MASH IT UP: With your spatula, crush up the entire pan of powder, if you are using multiple pans crush up each one and pour all of the loose powder into one pan. The purpose is to turn the pressed powder back into loose powder. (If you would like to try a loose powder, then you can stop here)
  2. ADD ALCOHOL: Depending on the size of the pan and how much product you have will depend on the amount of alcohol you will add. The easiest method I have found is using a dropper, but some bottles come with a squirt top, or you can pour it in the cap of the bottle (don’t worry, the excess will be soaked up later) I like to start with a few drop all through the pan, stir and add as needed.
  3. SMOOTH IT OVER: Once you feel that the powder is now a paste like consistency use your spatula to smooth is out. Once you feel like it is smoothed as evenly as you can get it, grab a paper towel and lightly press it over the pan to soak up any excess alcohol and press together.
  4. PERFECT THE EDGES:This step is optional, clean up the edges and Walah! Just like new!

To revive your dried-out and cracked old cream shadow, apply the same steps except there’s no need to mash it up. Just add alcohol to reactivate it, stir it, smooth it out and clean up the edges.

If you try this yourself, let me know how it works, and post a picture so I see!

I hope you enjoyed! And thank you so much for reading!

  2. Last month I was at Walgreens and I accidently dropped a Stay Matte powder by Rimmel which I intended to buy anyway but I was thinking “What if I just replace it with another one?” But that was the only translucent one and I was too nervous to put it back so I bough it and followed this method and it worked!
